Hot Take (Literally): Cars Make Heat Waves Worse

Written by:

Okay, hear me out—biking across Toronto in a heat wave might sound wild, but honestly? It wasn’t the pedaling that made me overheat. It was the cars.

Every time I passed one, I got blasted by engine heat like opening an oven. I even started choosing where to stop at red lights just to avoid being next to their hoods.

So here’s my maybe-controversial opinion: during extreme heat, cars should stay off the road. They radiate heat, guzzle A/C, and make already brutal conditions worse. Public transit, walking, biking—these should be the go-tos. Let’s cool our cities down, not cook them.
